The Southern Youth Leadership Development Institute (SYLDI) is a unique program for youth that seeks to help young people lead positive change in their communities. Modeled after the student activism of the modern civil rights movement, SYLDI’s purpose is to help ordinary youth find their voice, by cultivating the character traits, critical thinking and leadership skills necessary to impact their community in meaningful ways.

This is accomplished through community projects, workshops, interaction to legends of the modern civil rights movement, and current political, community, business and religious leaders, and scholars. These components work together to provide a comprehensive youth development program that molds change agents for the future.
